Jubilee Window

Single-light window. An image of the sun is found at the top, with a ram's horn and a shell. Beneath are hands being washed in red water, over symbols of the Crucifixion. A red cross below divides four portraits surrounded by chains.

The window was given in memory of Gareth Thomas. It was originally located at Hebron Welsh Independent Chapel in Clydach, where Gareth Thomas was the minister between 1971 and 1989.The Jubilee, outlined in Leviticus 25, was celebrated every fifty years, and fifty circles are found around border of the window. The sun of justice is shown above, with a shell and a ram's horn, which was blown to mark the beginning of the Jubilee. The theme of the Crucifixion is featured at the centre of the window, including symbols (nails, crown of thorns and spears) and the image of Pilate washing his hands. Symbols of injustice are shown below: a Jew at a concentration camp, a North American Indian, the racial apartheid of South Africa, and the Welsh Not in Wales, which discouraged the use of the Welsh language in schools.
