The window depicts a version of the 'Madonna della Misericordia' (Virgin of Mercy), most famously depicted in an altarpiece by Piero della Francesca at Sansepolcro, Tuscany (completed 1462). The altarpiece, and most other depictions, show figures grouped under the protection of Mary's cloak, although in this window the figures are grouped at the side. With a basket of bread (?) and ewer below, the composition is similar to scenes depicting Dorcas, or acts of Mercy, subjects which are much more common. However, the bread and ewer also have Eucharistic connotations. (ObjectID=631 ImageID=8277) Original File Name=Llanilltyd_DSC9134.jpgRecord added by Martin Crampin. Last updated on 23-07-2012
