perhaps 1870s

Three-light window depicting the Crucifixion with standing figures of Mary and John at either side. Angels below and in a sexfoil above, between the alpha and omega.

Church of St Peter and St Meugan, Ruthin, Denbighshire
west wall of the south nave

The window has some similarities with the work of Heaton, Butler & Bayne. The central figure of Christ is not commensurate with the quality of the outer lights, and is probably a later replacement.

Text: 'I am the Resurrection and the Life' (John 11:25).

Given in memory of John Spier Hughes (died 1868) by his widow. The window looks more like stained glass of the 1870s than of around 1868.
