These early depictions of Welsh saints perhaps anticipate the sympathy for the Celtic Revival which may be seen in the later nineteenth-century collection of Celtic Revival gravestones of the Nicholl family in the graveyard. The antiquarian interests of the donor is perhaps also reflected in the form used for Teilo, which is similar to the oldest known form of the name, Teiliau (Latin: Teliaus), used in the early medieval Book of Chad. The name is nonetheless given after the Welsh 'Sant'; in contrast, David is given in the Welsh form, Dewi, but also follows Sant, rather than the more usual 'Dewi Sant'.
