about 1875
Single-light window with standing, robed, figure of Christ under a canopy giving a blessing and holding an open book displaying the alpha and omega. The rich red garment emblazoned with golden flowers is an unusual robe for Christ.
firm/studio: Clayton & Bellpatron: Henry James and Magaret Bath (family)Church of St Egwad, Llanegwad, Carmarthenshiresouth wall of the chancel
Text: 'Jesus said a new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another'.
Dedication: 'In loving remembrance of Henry James Bath of Alltyfering [sic] Sep 15 1875.' The Bath family of Alltyferin in this parish (built by them 1869) were responsible for Holy Trinity, Pontargothi (1865-78) which was completed by H. J. Bath's widow as his memorial.
The similarity in style to the east window suggests that this is by the firm Clayton and Bell, the firm also employed by the family at Pontargothi. (ObjectID=906 ImageID=1690) Original File Name=_MG_4905.jpgRecord added by Martin Crampin. Last updated on 20-12-2011
