Stained Glass in Wales | Gwydr Lliw yng Nghymru

John Hall & Sons (founded 1788)

Paint, glass and varnish manufacturers, first established in 1788 in Bristol. John Hall & Son subcontracted painted panels to other glass painters, including Joseph Bell in the 1840s, before his own studio became successful. John Hall & Son also opened an office in London. The business was acquired by Berger, Jenson and Nicholson Ltd in 1948, although the stained glass studio continued in existence into the 1980s.

Among their designers was Frank Baldwin, who was perhaps their chief designer immediately after the war at the London offices. He was moved to work at the Bristol office in 1961, but died a few years later (information kindly supplied by Jennifer Clark).
