Lower Inscription

Stained glass mounted in two lower panels of the window above the staircase landing, placed side by side.
The left-hand side panel depicts Queen Elizabeth I with Sir Walter Raleigh laying down his cloak in front of her. Male attendant behind and a background of outside balustrade and gate of a fine house. The scene is surrounded by a portrait frame and enriched on the outer by swags and ribbons.
The second window to its right depicts King Charles and Henrietta with their two children (presumably after Van Dyke painting). Similar composition as the first and also encased within a picture frame. Similar strapwork, swags and small cartouches on the outer perimeter.

Both window panels are signed J.Dudley Forsyth LONDON in the lower right of the window but not signed.
Texts: (Queen Elizabeth panel, bottom left in a small cartouche) 'Queen Elizabeth stayed at Llanvihangel Court'; (King Charles panel, bottom left in a small cartouche) 'King Charles 1 stayed in the house during the time that his troops were quartered in Raglan Castle'.
