St John the Evangelist with an Angel
detail from Christ in Majesty with St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist
1955
Three-light window with Christ as king and standing on a rainbow in the central light. To the left is John baptising Jesus, and in the right-hand light an angel stands behind the seated figure of John, with a book on his lap. Below the figure of Christ is a scene of the Nativity. Symbols of John the Baptist (Agnus Dei) and John the Evangelist (eagle) are found in roundels at the top of the outer lights.

The suggestion of the shoreline and water around the edge of the land on which John is seated probably implies that he is writing the Book of Revelation, rather than his gospel.
