Clement John Heaton was the son of Clement Heaton (1824-82) who had founded his own stained glass firm in 1852, and went into partnership with Robert Butler in 1855. Clement John Heaton took over the firm Heaton, Butler & Bayne on the death of his father in 1882, but resigned in 1884. He later moved to Switzerland, and to the USA in 1914, continuing to design and make stained glass.
