Rodney Bender (b. 1956)


Artist and designer working in glass. Born in Australia, he moved to Wales in 1978, where he worked with Celtic Studios and then studied at Swansea Institute. Subsequently he taught Architectural Glass at the Institute and became Head of the Welsh School of Architectural Glass in 1995. He founded Innovative Glass Products (IGP Ltd) to commercialise 'KiloLux', a glass product which has load bearing capabilities of brick. KiloLux was used as horizontal bands of glass through the slate walling of the Cardiff Millennium Centre.
