Benjamin Bucknall (1833-1895)

Victorian architect working mainly in the Gothic Revival style, influenced by the French architect, Viollet-le-Duc. Benjamin Joseph Bucknall converted to Catholicism in 1852 and many of his church commissions were for Catholic patrons, including churches in Abergavenny and Monmouth, and extensions to St David's Priory Church in Swansea. He settled for a time nearby at Oystermouth, and he, as well as his brothers designed other buildings in and around Swansea. He also worked on two Anglican churches, one of which was for Henry Bath at Pont-ar-gothi, Carmarthenshire.
