artist (after): William Holman Huntfirm/studio: Abbott & Co. LtdHeol Awst, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshirebeside the pulpit
The window is a memorial to the founder of the chapel and 'apostle of Carmarthenshire', the Revd Stephen Hughes (1622-88) put in place on the 300th anniversary of his birth. Hughes was a native of Carmarthen town and was minister of Meidrym under the Commonwealth, from which living he was ejected at the Restoration. He is most notable for his work of publishing accessible and cheap religious works in the Welsh language.
The window forms a pair with the War Memorial.
A reproduction of William Holman Hunt's painting hangs in the vestibule. (ObjectID=909 ImageID=1699) Original File Name=_MG_4876.jpgRecord added by Martin Crampin, Additional contribution by John Morgan-Guy. Last updated on 14-12-2011
