artist: Jane Carpenter

Pontardawe Heritage and Visitor Centre, Pontardawe, Neath Port Talbot

Ellen Gilbertson died in 1894 aged 44, having borne 14 children. She was married to steel owner Arthur Gilbertson who commissioned the rose window at All Saints Church Pontardawe in her memory. The church is now closed and the window has been restored by Jane Carpenter, and is on display in Pontardawe Heritage Centre.

The restoration of the rose window was enabled by the local community through donations of glass, lead and money to buy materials, and this window was made in gratitude to the individuals who contributed.

The design is loosely based on the rose design. Each person, and the Dylan Thomas School, is named in the window, and chose a symbol that is now found in the window. Information provided by the artist.
