Texts: 'The Lord of peace give you peace always' (2 Thessalonians 3:16); 'The Lord will bless his people with peace' (Psalm 29:11).

Dedication: 'To the glory of God and in memory of John and Jane Jones who died Dec. 1927 and Sept. 1917. Given by their son.'

The angel carries a palm branch, traditionally the symbol of victory, and in Christian iconography the martyr's triumph over death. He also holds a laurel wreath, symbolizing triumph and eternity. Paul contrasts the laurel wreath, reward of the victor in ancient contests, with the imperishable wreath with which the victorious Christian is crowned, in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27. The fact that laurel does not wilt or fade was the reason for the original choice.
