Scenes with Christ, St Martha and St Mary Magdalene
about 1856
One of a pair of two-light windows with a main scene in a medallion and angel below in each light, following the theme of resurrection.
Martha kneeling before Christ in the left-hand light, and an angel below with the text 'I am the resurrection and the life' (John 11:25). The adjacent scene shows both Martha and Mary kneeling before Christ, and the angel below holds the text from the narrative a few verses later: 'She arose quickly, and came unto him' (John 11:29). The small losenges above contain the monograms chi-rho, alpha and omega and IHC. Christ in Majesty in the small light at the apex of the window.
