about 1971
Set of stations of the cross as vertical window lights around the walls of the church.
artist: Frank RoperChurch of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshirenorth, south and east walls of the nave
The choice of colour would have been deeply influenced by the artist's wife, Nora Roper.
Elsewhere the windows have been dated as 1972–3. The windows were originally commissioned by March 1970, and correspondence with the artist shows that he was working on them during that year, and they were still under way in November, by which time the cost had risen from 'about £40 a piece' to £50 each. Presumably, he finished them either by the end of the year, or early in 1971.
