north wall of the nave

Signed with the the mark of the firm, the cowled monk, a relatively early use of the mark.

Inscription: 'Lord, now lettest Thou thy servant depart in peace.'

Dedication: 'Given by their children in blessed memory of John J. and Martha Edwards MCMXXIII.'


The presentation of Christ in the Temple. The infant Jesus is held in the arms of Simeon, who blesses Him (Luke 2:28) and voices the words of the canticle Nunc Dimittis (vv.29-32). Mary kneels in the foreground, with Joseph standing in the background. Also present is Anna the daughter of Phanuel, the prophetess, who also praises God for His Christ (vv.36-38). In the foreground is the cage containing the two doves, the ordained sacrifice at the presentation (v.24).
