The window was commissioned at the time of the reopening of the church in 1896.Edmwnd Prys was the author of Salmau Cân Cymreig (1621) and archdeacon of Merioneth. He was granted the living of Ffestiniog and Maentwrog from 1572 until his death in 1623, although also rector of Ludlow. He lived at Tyddyn-du, Maentwrog from about 1576.
