about 1961

Set of symbols in square panels in the central light of a three-light window. From top to bottom these are: flying dove with a sprig in its beak with the word 'pax'; sailing boat on the sea; chalice with the host, star with the word 'Mair' (Mary); Agnus Dei (lamb and flag); chi-rho with wreath; vessel with (?) loaves and a fish. The symbols are set in geometric coloured glass.

firm/studio: Murphy-Devitt Studios

Church of the Good Shepherd, Llanrwst, Conwy
(liturgical) west window
previously at: Church of Our Lady of the Woods, Betws-y-coed, Conwy

The symbol panels were removed from the Church of Our Lady of the Woods, Betws-y-coed, where they were originally installed in different windows. They have now been placed together in a single window at Llanrwst, using the original surrounding coloured glass.

Johnny Murphy and others from Murphy-Devitt Studios had gone to volunteer in Betws-y-coed in 1959, preparing the foundations for the new church. The studio continued in their support for the new church by providing all of the stained glass (with thanks to Reiltín Murphy for her attribution and additional information).

The figures in the boat seem to represent the disciples with Christ during the storm. The fish, with what may be a vessel containing bread, may represent the feeding of the five thousand.
