The Virgin Mary
from Scenes from the Life of Christ
1915
The sanctuary windows comprise five two-light windows. The subjects are the Annunciation, the Adoration of the Magi, the Crucifixion, the three women at the empty tomb, and the risen Christ meeting Mary Magdalene in the garden.
The Annunciation scene depicts Gabriel visiting Mary, who is kneeling at prayer. Angels above and roundels of the prophets Iaaiah and Micah (Michaeas) below.

The Kempe and Tower mark is found in the lower left-hand light.
Unlike inscriptions in the other windows of the set, the texts of this window are in Latin. The angel greets Mary with the words 'Ave Maria' (Hail Mary), and she responds 'Ecce ancilla D[omi]ni fiat mihi secundum verbu[m] tuu[m]' (Luke 1:38). Smiling angels over the figure of Gabriel hold the text, with musical score: 'Magnificat anima, mea Dominum', which is the first line of the Magnificat ('My soul doth magnify the Lord' Luke 1:46).
