Five-light window. The risen Christ is depicted in the air over the empty tomb, with the three women below, and angels. The outer lights depict Old Testament characters: David, Hosea, Daniel and Isaiah.

firm/studio: C.E. Kempe

Church of St John, Barmouth, Gwynedd
west wall of the nave (window number: WI)

Signed with the Kempe and Tower mark in the lower left-hand light.

David holds the text: 'Thou shalt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption' (Psalm 16:10); Hosea holds the text: 'I will redeem them from death' (Hosea: 13:14); Daniel holds the text: 'Whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, all dominions shall serve Him' (Daniel 7:27); Isaiah holds the text: 'Seek ye the LORD while He may be found' (Isaiah 55:6). The texts identify the figures.

The scene departs from the biblical narrative by depicting the appearance of the risen Chriat to all three of the women who come to the tomb to anoint his body.
