Of Such is the Kingdom of God
1875
Single-light window with seated figure of Christ with two children and a kneeling female figure.
firm/studio: Henry HughesChurch of St John the Baptist, Clydach, Swanseasouth wall of the nave (window number: sIV)
Signed H. Hughes, London 1875.
The text that gives the title to the scene is from Matthew 19:14; Mark 10:14 and Luke 18:16.
Given by Llywellyn and Eliza Williams Llywellyn in memory of their sons, William (died 1841 aged three months), and Hoel (1850-8).The ages of the two boys in whose memory the window is dedicated are reflected in the appearance of the two boys depicted in the window: the infant on Christ's knee and the older boy, who Christ reaches out to bless.
The design and decoration matches the adjacent window of Christ teaching his disciples, and as it carries no other dedication, it is probably a companion window, continuing the theme of the hope in the resurrection.
