Virgin Mary
detail from The Crucifixion with the Virgin Mary and St John
early twentieth century
Three-light window with Christ on the cross flanked by the figures of Mary and John. An annunciation scene is spread across the three lower panels, with Gabriel (left) facing Mary (right) and a large vase of lilies at the centre. Standing figures of the archangels Uriel, Gabriel, Michael and Raphael occupy the tracery lights.
Church of St Michael, Kerry, Powyseast wall of the south chancel
Attributed to C.E. Kempe with a date of c.1890 in the The Buildings of Wales: Powys, and although the style is similar to the later work of Kempe's studio, it is not by the firm (information kindly provided by Philip Collins). It is probably by Herbert Bryans, suggesting a date either in the later 1890s or in the early twentieth century. Unfortunately the lower part of the window is obscured by the reredos, which may reveal Bryans' makers mark and a date.
