firm/studio: Celtic StudiosChurch of St Twrog, Maentwrog, Gwyneddsouth wall of the south aisle
Given in memory of Mary Caroline Inge (1865-1961).The depiction of Phebe seems to be an imaginary depiction of her arriving in Rome, and welcomed there. A ship is shown in the background. This is dependent on two verses from the final chapter of Paul's letter to the Romans: 'I commend unto you Phebe our sister ... That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you' (16:1-2). The final part of verse 2 is quoted on the window: 'for she hath been a succourer of many'. (ObjectID=2019 ImageID=4788) Original File Name=_MG_0495A.jpgRecord added by Martin Crampin.
