1886

Three-light window with Ruth clinging to Naomi, the building of a synagogue and a man and a woman, probably Lord and Lady Londonderry performing acts of mercy.

patron: Londonderry (family)
firm/studio: Ward & Hughes

Church of St Peter, Machynlleth, Powys
south wall of the chancel

Signed Ward & Hughes London 1886.

Texts: Thy people shall be my people and thy God my God (Ruth 1:16); For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue (Luke 7:5); As ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (Matthew 25:40).

Given in memory of George Henry Robert Charles William, 5th Marquess of Londonderry (d.1884) by his 'Welsh friends and neighbours'.

Lord and Lady Londonderry were benefactors of the church which explains the reference to the centurion from Luke 7.
