Given in memory of Dr Charles Vachell. As Charles Vachell was a doctor, it was fitting that Luke should be among the figures. Luke is depicted writing, or perhaps drawing on a book. As he looks directly across at the Virgin and Child, who return his gaze, this seems to be a reference to the tradition that Luke painted a portrait of the Virgin and Child.
