Single-light window with Christ depicted as the sower and a scene showing Paul preaching in Athens in a lower panel.

size: 38 cm (width)
firm/studio: Morris & Co.
designer: Edward Coley Burne-Jones

Church of St Mary, Betws-y-coed, Conwy
west wall of the south aisle

One of a pair of windows at the west end of the church with Salvator Mundi.

The image of Christ as the sower is a late design (1897) by Burne-Jones.

An effective juxtaposition. The Sower, shown here as Jesus, and Paul (identified conventionally as bald-headed) preaching at Areopagus in Athens before the altar of the unknown god (DEO IGNOTO on the column). Both images refer to the proclamation of the gospel, indiscriminately, to those who will receive it, and those who will not.
